On July 31, 2026, the University of Finance - Marketing (UFM), in collaboration with the Hue Institute for Development Studies and EM Normandie Business School, France, held an international scientific conference entitled “Sustainable Development in a Changing Global Economy” at UFM’s Hue Branch.
The conference provided a high-level academic forum connecting researchers, policymakers and business representatives. Participants shared research findings and practical experience, identified emerging challenges and explored solutions for sustainable development amid profound changes in the global economy.
The event brought together nearly 120 delegates from government agencies, universities, research institutes, international organizations and businesses. Representatives from Hue City, UFM and EM Normandie Business School attended the conference alongside experts, scientists and lecturers from Vietnam and abroad.
In the opening session, representatives of the organizing institutions emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation among government, academia and the business community in addressing practical development challenges in Hue City and Vietnam’s Central Region. International research cooperation was also highlighted as an essential foundation for developing effective and adaptable solutions to global economic, social and environmental issues.
The conference featured two thematic sessions comprising seven scientific presentations.
The first session, “Global Transformations and Challenges for Sustainable Development,” examined the effects of global economic volatility on development goals. Discussions focused on Vietnam’s transition towards a circular economy, regional welfare disparities caused by geographical disadvantages and competitiveness in the container transport industry.
The second session, “Heritage Cities, Tourism and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” addressed issues closely associated with Hue City’s development strategy. Speakers presented approaches to dynamic and innovative heritage-city governance, solutions for maintaining sustainable tourism flows and methods for improving integrated marketing communications among small and medium-sized tourism enterprises.
Discussions among policymakers, researchers and business representatives highlighted the need to balance economic growth with environmental protection, social welfare and cultural preservation. For Hue City, the research findings provided valuable scientific references for developing a dynamic heritage city, promoting green tourism and strengthening the local innovation ecosystem.
As part of the conference program, international delegates visited the Hue Imperial City and the Hue Intelligent Operations Centre. The field visits offered practical insights into the city’s efforts to combine heritage conservation, digital technology and modern urban governance in support of sustainable development.
The conference reaffirmed UFM’s commitment to developing its Hue Branch into a leading centre for education, scientific research and academic engagement in Vietnam’s Central Region. It also opened new opportunities for multilateral cooperation, knowledge transfer and research initiatives serving the sustainable development of Hue City, the Central Region and the country.
